SHOCK! Key Telstra supplier supports Telstra

Mega telco Telstra revealed the following staggering news on its corporate blog today: Alcatel, the key supplier that stands to earn billions from building Telstra’s Australian fibre-to-the-node network has come out in support of Telstra and against its competitors.

Where would journalism in this country be without Telstra in the fray, breaking this kind of earth-shattering news.

Meanwhile, Telstra PR man Rod Bruem has a deep distrust of journalists, writing to me in a recent online comment, “Dan, when you’ve been in the media game as long as I have you may have a different view as to whether or not journos are influenced by their masters.”

I wonder if the same applies to vendors saying gushingly supportive things about their clients.

  1. The point of my post wasn’t to comment on who broke it, but rather the “duh really?” nature of a Telstra supplier with billions of potential earnings on the line supporting Telstra’s point of view.

I will now read the ZD story though and make sure it is suitably sarcastic šŸ˜‰

  3. Well blow me over with a feather Dan! It’s common knowledge Alcatel has an MOU to supply Telstra if its FTTN goes ahead, but there’s nothing to stop them building something for the “gang of seven”.
I’m sure Alcatel would love to see several network builds going ahead. Mike Quigley is given a pretty frank assessment and he’s not the only one saying it.
Good luck to you Dan if as always, you know better!
